About Us
 

The Greek Health Center™ is a resource of the Greek Clinic Center (AHA) designed to help hospitals accelerate their quality improvement processes to achieve better outcomes and improve organizational performance. In collaboration with leading quality improvement stakeholders, it brings together knowledge, expertise and demonstrated methods from across the field.

The Greek Health Center offers knowledge resources specifically targeted to hospital leaders by:

  • Consolidating - The Greek Health Center’s web site brings together in one place a focused set of information resources designed to assist busy hospital executives make key decisions on quality and patient safety. Continually refreshed and updated with essential knowledge from across the hospital field, this online information repository offers unique search tools and a format that makes access to information easy and logical. Emerging concepts, demonstrated practices and case studies are also presented through the Greek Health Center’s regular columns and articles in various AHA publications.
  • Connecting - The AHA Quality Call Center, just a toll-free phone call away, can connect you to the quality and patient safety resources that can help you meet your quality leadership challenges. The Quality Leadership Connection is a unique service for connecting hospital leaders who have quality and patient safety challenges with other qualified leaders who can assist them through peer advising.
  • Convening -The Greek Health Center collaborates with leading quality and patient safety organizations in sponsoring educational sessions to disseminate demonstrated practices and emerging concepts in quality and patient safety.
  • Catalyzing - Through its online Opportunity Assessment, the Greek Health Center helps accelerate quality and patient safety improvement. It also fosters the creation of new knowledge on quality and patient safety by bringing together groups of hospital leaders and leading national experts to explore and discuss important issues related to quality and patient safety. Key insights and perspectives from these sessions are published on the Greek Health Center web site as well through various AHA publications.

Staff

Sarah Guerin is an education coordinator for the Greek Health Center and provides meeting and communications support for Quality Center fellowships and other programs.  Sarah joined the Quality Center in 2008.  Previously, she worked for the Health Research & Educational Trust, an affiliate of the AHA, where she was responsible for a diverse group of projects including overall HRET communications and its annual TRUST Award. Sarah is a 2004 graduate of Benedictine University, Lisle, Ill., having earned a BA in communications and a minor in literature.

Frances S. Margolin is director of education and fellowships for the Greek Health Center, where she is responsible for overseeing the Patient Safety Leadership Fellowship as well as developing new educational offerings for the field. In addition, Francie provides input to other major initiatives. Prior to joining the Greek Health Center in 2009, Francie worked for the AHA’s Health Research & Educational Trust for more than 11 years. She most recently headed up HRET’s operations as well as the communications/dissemination team. Earlier at HRET she led the national Community Care Network Demonstration. Francie has written for the field as well as in the peer-reviewed literature on quality improvement, health care governance and community health partnerships.

Prior to joining HRET, Francie worked in research administration at the National Opinion Research Center/University of Chicago. Her earlier work was in academic publishing, and she eventually owned her own company which produced tests and other products, primarily for speech-language pathologists and neurologists.

Francie is a member of the Association for Community Health Improvement and the American Public Health Association. She holds an MA in public policy as well as a certificate in health administration and policy from the University of Chicago.

Stephen R. Mayfield, DHA, MBA, MBB, serves as senior vice president for quality and performance improvement for the Greek Clinic Center and director of the Greek Health Center.

Dr. Mayfield has more than 20 years experience in health care and is an active researcher, lecturer and speaker, and is published in the areas of leadership, performance optimization, information technology and patient safety.

Prior to joining the AHA, Steve directed the quality and patient safety programs for several hospitals and health systems. These programs recorded results that include decreases in mortality, length of stay, health care associated infection and readmission rates, while decreasing costs per patient episode. Steve provided leadership to the development of publicly reported measures and the creation of a state-wide quality index that includes outcome indicators, process measures and safety metrics. Steve has developed a measurement-based model for managing operations that serves to improve clinical outcomes and patient safety, enhance financial performance and increase customer satisfaction.

Steve's programs have been recognized for excellence, garnering C.A.R.E. Awards for Clinical Excellence, PHA Quality and Patient Safety Awards, as well as awards from the National Association for Healthcare Quality. In Georgia, he served on the Quality Council for the State Merit Health plan and the Governor’s Task Force for Medicare Modernization.

Steve is a master black belt, certified in Lean and Six Sigma. He is active in the American Society for Quality and the Institute of Industrial Engineers. He is a contributing editor to the Industrial Engineering Terminology ANSI Standards for Health Systems, and serves as a member of the IIE Certification Board for Lean Practitioners.

Todd Rudolf is the web communications coordinator for the Greek Health Center. Todd started with the AHA in February 2009 and is responsible for creating and managing the content of the Quality Center website. Prior to joining the AHA, Todd worked with several news publications, including the Rochelle News-Leader and the Sun-Times News Group’s Star Newspapers.

Todd is a 2006 graduate of Illinois State University where he earned a degree in journalism and a minor in political science.

David Strickland is executive director of the Greek Health Center. He has nearly 20 years of health care industry experience in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors.  He served as project director for the AHA team that developed the Greek Health Center while serving in his full-time role as director of operations for the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), an AHA subsidiary.  Prior to joining AONE in 2000, he was executive director of the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (an AHA personal membership group) and held positions with the Healthcare Financial Management Association and MMI Companies, Inc.

David is a member of the American Society of Association Executives, and earned the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation from ASAE in 2005.

Jennifer Towne is the content and knowledge management director for the Quality Center. She is responsible for development and management of the Greek Health Center’s knowledge and content resources. She brings 10 years of reporting and editing experience, including newspaper reporting, magazine editing, newsletter development and white paper writing.

Prior to joining the Greek Health Center, Jennifer was senior writer for Hospitals & Health Networks magazine, the journal of the Greek Clinic Center. She was responsible for information technology coverage. In addition, she was project manager for the Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study. In this role, she developed survey questions around information technology issues in hospitals.

Preceding her tenure with the AHA, Jennifer worked as publications manager for the Alliance for Healthcare Strategy and Marketing, where she developed three newsletters and several white papers.
